Muslims, as a unit, have seriously ignored the attainment of knowledge over the past few centuries. The message being conveyed by traditional Islamic scholars seems to undermine the study of worldly knowledge. The general trend is that Muslims are convinced that secular education should be achieved only to enable an individual to earn a living for himself and for raising his/her family. The Quran, however, instructs its followers to acquire knowledge so that it can appreciate the divine creation and have the ability to benefit himself and the fellow human being.
This research paper will emphasize that it is the prime duty of a Muslim to attain education to his/her best potential and excel in various fields.
The paper should also identify fields which can be used to exploit human susceptibilities and corrupt young minds or cause human destruction. That is, it could elucidate on the improper use and challenges associated with entities of both the traditional and modern day, including the fine arts of singing, music, dance and poetry etc, as well the spread of illicit drug use, ethical issues regarding medical researches, nuclear power, weapons of mass destruction etc relatively. How should the study of such entities be regulated so that the sciences are only used to benefit the mankind rather than corrupt it?
